CEREC® 1 Day Dental Crowns

CEREC® by Sirona Dental Systems is the world’s first system for the fabrication of all ceramic dental restorations in one office visit. With CEREC®, you can be in and out in a single visit with a permanent crown! For you, the patient, this means fewer injections, less drilling, and less time out of your hectic schedule for dental care.

Single Appointment Dental Care

At most dental offices, crowns usually require more than one visit.  This means that on the first visit, you get an injection of anesthesia, your tooth prepared, an impression taken, and a temporary restoration put on your tooth.   You then make a second appointment for a couple of weeks later, get another injection, have the temporary pried off (if you haven’t done that for us with a good caramel or gummy bear candy), then have the permanent restoration put on.  Why come to the dentist a second time for the same tooth if you don’t have to?  Save yourself some time!  With CEREC®, the procedure is done in a single appointment.

Finest Dental Materials

A CEREC® tooth restoration isn’t just convenient, it is also healthy. Many years ago, dentists had few options to repair decayed and damaged teeth other than amalgam, gold, and other metals. With CEREC®, Dr. Vadnal can use strong, tooth colored ceramic materials to restore your teeth to their natural strength, beauty, and function. These materials closely match the composition of natural tooth structure. This means when you eat hot food and then drink something cold, the restoration and tooth expand and contract at almost equal rates.  This means your teeth do not crack and you can go about your business in confidence.  Also, the materials are chemically bonded to your tooth, so we can save as much healthy tooth tissue as possible while providing you with a dental restoration that strengthens your tooth.

How Does CEREC Work?

First, doctor prepares the damaged tooth by removing the damaged tooth structure. Next he paints a thin layer of reflective powder directly on the tooth’s surface. Using a special camera, doctor then takes a picture of the tooth. No need to take a messy impression or send it to the lab. Doctor works from this digital image which is actually a highly accurate optical impression of the tooth.

Computer aided design technology helps design the restoration from the optical impression. The design is done chairside on a color monitor. You can watch Dr. Vadnal design the new restoration right in front of your eyes!  Then a computer aided mill creates the restoration while you wait. The tooth is milled out of a block of ceramic material that matches your tooth color. Computer aided manufacturing uses a diamond burrs simultaneously to mill a precise restoration. The milling takes about 15 minutes. Finally, Dr Vadnal bonds the newly milled restoration to the tooth using an adhesive.
